We are located in the village of Karungi, on the Swedish side of the Torne River which acts as the border between Sweden and Finland.
As you can see the cottage is fairly equidistant between Lulea (Sweden) and Rovaniemi (Finland) airports. Each is around 1.5 hours drive, slightly longer to Rovaniemi.
20 minutes drive south from the cottage sees you arrive in the Eurocity of Haparanda (Sweden) and Tornio (Finland). You are able to freely cross the border between these two cities and they are almost one and the same place which make it very interesting with Finland being one hour ahead of Sweden and with different currencies (Swedish Krona vs Euro in Finland)
30-35 mins drive north from the cottage will see you arrive at another more populated town called Overtornea. Here you can cross the river and border again into Finland.
Our Lapland Cottage is located around 40-45 minutes drive south of the Arctic circle. There is a large monument located at the village of Juoksengi where you will see flags of all of the countries that has the Arctic circle line pass through them alongside information boards and artistic monuments .
Therefore it truly is an arctic getaway which is a great story to tell that you have literally been an Arctic explorer when you adventure beyond this latitude!!
Map Explained
